Attracting the brightest international creative voices to engage with the local Australian production sector is something that SCREEN FOREVER works hard to achieve. In announcing acclaimed producer, showrunner and writer Dominic Minghella as our special keynote guest, Screen Producers Australian and supporting partner, Film Victoria, are thrilled to welcome his talent and inspirational career arc to the SCREEN FOREVER stage.
For Minghella, the business of making drama and telling stories is nothing short of a “calling”, he believes that the work chooses you. Luckily the muse on Minghella’s shoulder has exceptional taste and wise commercial judgement. His first job as a script editor and writer was on Hamish Macbeth, he then created the global phenomenon of Doc Martin, which launched in 2004 and is currently in its 9th series. Doc Martin’s success has translated into Spanish, French, Greek, German, Dutch, Russian, Czech versions of the drama format.
Minghella also enjoyed international success as writer, producer and showrunner of BBC/Tiger Aspect’s Robin Hood.
Via his production company, Island Pictures, Minghella produced Charles Sturridge’s adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s The Scapegoat and continues to develop raft of projects across film and television.
2017 ushered in a new chapter for Minghella as a showrunner for the epic drama Knightfall for A&E Studios and the History Channel, which is currently in its second season. Like Hamish Macbeth and Doc Martin, Knightfall has captured Australian minds and audiences in strong numbers.
“Knightfall premiered in Australia on SBS earlier this year and immediately caught the attention of audiences with its epic period storytelling, recounting one of history’s most enduring legends – the Knights Templar and their quest to protect the Holy Grail. Following it’s TV broadcast, Knightfall quickly became one of our most watched dramas on SBS On Demand,” commented Marshall Heald, SBS Director of Television and Online Content.
Minghella will be appearing in an exclusive In Conversation keynote session at SCREEN FOREVER which is held across November 20 – 22 at the Crown Conference Centre, Melbourne.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dominic Minghella to SCREEN FOREVER 2018. His career as a writer, showrunner and creative producer is testament to his innate vision for developing iconic narratives and characters that not only resonate locally but also globally. It is a rare gift and a rich commodity for the modern producer, an area that we will be exploring deeply at SCREEN FOREVER,” said Screen Producers Australia, CEO, Matthew Deaner.
Further keynote and programming announcements for #SCREENFOREVER2018 will be announced in the coming weeks.
