In a major step forward for parents and carers in the screen industry, a creche will be available for the very first time at this year’s SCREEN FOREVER. And it’s free!
The creche recognises the importance of access to the intelligence and opportunities that come with attending the conference and supports a sustainable and diverse screen industry. Located onsite at the Crown Conference Centre and open from 8:30am to 5:30pm on each of the three days, it’s the result of a partnership between the South Australian Film Corporation, Create NSW, Screen Producers Australia and Women in Film and Television.
Here are three reasons why SCREEN FOREVER’s creche is a game changer.
It’s a reality that networking is important for career development, and in some circumstances, children can make this more challenging. Having access to the free crèche will mean that parents and carers will be in the same position as everyone else when it comes to approaching networking opportunities.
“Raising a family is often viewed as a career obstacle, particularly affecting women’s participation in the Australian screen industry,” said WIFT NSW President and WIFT Australia Board member, Megan Riakos. “We see this as an important step forward in acknowledging and providing support for all parents, while kickstarting a broader conversation about how we can work together to create a more family friendly industry.”
2. Work-life balance
The creche can help parents and carers maintain their work-life balance through the conference. “Access and flexibility are the cornerstones of diversity in any industry,” said South Australian Film Corporation Chief Executive, Courtney Gibson. “The SCREEN FOREVER creche has the screen industry showing leadership in relation to both.”
3. It leads by example
Not all conferences are cut from the same cloth. SCREEN FOREVER’s creche sets an example for conferences everywhere by creating a safe and accessible environment that supports families and enables a variety of delegates to attend.
