DIVERSITY AND REPRESENTATION IN KIDS CONTENT: MIRROR OR MIRAGE?

Innovation Hub, Meeting Room 11, Level 1

Media is the primary driver for shaping children’s social and cultural beliefs, self esteem and increasingly, behaviour and unconscious bias.  The role of television and digital media as educator and inductor into the ways of the world is more powerful and intrusive than any other time in the screen age. We speak to the trailblazers that are shifting the spectrum of Australian kids content and Australian identity from homogeneous to authentic, rich and diverse with an accent on education and social inclusivity.

How can the media and entertainment industry work positively to fix gender and cultural representation imbalance, identify unconscious bias and creatively remodel content that remodels negative stereotypes?
