Darren Chau is the Director of Programming at Discovery, overseeing a suite of factual channels across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, as well as Executive Producing Discovery’s local production slate including international hit series ‘Aussie Gold Hunters’ and ‘Outback Opal Hunters’.
Prior to joining Discovery, Darren has a successful and award winning background working extensively in production, programming, scheduling and promotion across entertainment, scripted, comedy, factual and late night television for both free-to-air and subscription television, including five years serving as a Group Programming Director and Executive Producer for Foxtel’s entertainment channels. Darren has created a dozen television shows, co-created and launched an STV channel, worked as a head writer and producer on hundreds of hours of television, served as an official judge of the International Emmys and was appointed expert moderator for the Comedy Nominee Panel Session at the Emmy’s World Television Festival in New York.

Discovery’s Factual & Sport channels across ANZ & Pacific Islands include Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Turbo, Science and Eurosport. Discovery’s Lifestyle channels include TLC, Living Channel, Food TV and Discovery Kids. Discovery Channel is currently looking to expand its local slate. The channel’s core genres include: Extreme jobs, Motoring, Off-the-Grid, Big Builds, Mystery & Pop Science as well as Crime & Rescue. Current and past local productions include Aussie Gold Hunters, Outback Opal Hunters, Railroad Australia, Sydney Harbour Patrol, Abalone Wars, Robson Green’s Australian Adventure and Dr Karl’s Outrageous Acts of Science.
