CHIEF EXECUTIVE & MANAGING DIRECTOR, SBS

Michael has been SBS Chief Executive and Managing Director for five years, since June 2011. He has nearly 30 years’ experience in senior management and executive roles across the technology, telecommunications and media industries in Australia and abroad.

Under Michael’s leadership, SBS has launched NITV and Food Network free-to-air, struck an exclusive deal with VICE, long-term rights agreements for the FIFA World Cup and Tour de France and deals for the English Premier League and A-League. SBS has become a market leader in digital streaming and leveraged its credentials in digital broadcast technology to deliver on Charter obligations through a major expansion of in-language services and programs for Australia’s LOTE community. A continuous focus on driving a high-performance and creative organisational culture, coupled with a program of continual efficiencies has made SBS the most agile media organisation domestically.

Prior to SBS, Michael was Executive Director of Corporate Strategy and Marketing at the ABC for three years. Before that he was Commercial Operations Director at Optus Communications for 10 years. Michael began his career at IBM where he held various finance, sales and marketing positions in Australia and Asia over nine years. Michael has a Bachelor of Business (Charles Sturt University), International Executive Development Program (INSEAD Business College, France), and Media Strategies Program (Harvard Business School, Boston).
