Mike Jones is a writer, script producer, and story editor whose projects have received numerous AWG, SPA, ACCTA, & ADG awards & nominations. Mike is best known as an expert in speculative & dark genre narratives but is equally adept in shaping narrative comedy. Currently he serves as story editor with boutique TV production company, Sweet Potato Films, whose success includes the celebrated supernatural drama series, The Kettering Incident.
A well regarded story developer, Mike has worked with companies including Warner Bros, Jungle, Princess Pictures, and Every Cloud Productions where he was story-producer of youth-drama series Deadlock. As a script-producer for the ABC Mike has also overseen celebrated comic-drama series including F*cking Adelaide, Other People’s Problems, and Wrong Kind of Black.
Beyond from TV, Mike was co-creator of the virtual-reality detective-thriller VRNoirwith StartVR; short-listed for the International Proto Award for most Innovative VR 2016. He was also co-writer of speculative fiction VR mystery thriller, Awakewhich premiered at SXSW and featured at Cannes in 2018.
Mike has lead long-form script development labs for YouTube, served as a development executive to Screen Australia, and lectured in story & writing at the Australian Film TV & Radio School, where he currently sits on the AFTRS industry advisory group. A published novelist of gothic horror fiction, his early career spanned writing for theatre – where he was twice recipient of a national young playwright’s award – and worked as a stage and screen industry journalist.
